EGO FRIENDLY is MAD MADMEN’S debut EP. The name EGO FRIENDLY was formulated from an inside joke between members, KALAM MAHARDHIKA (Guitars/Vocals), MARVIN MUHAMMAD (Bass/Vocals), and THAREQ SATRIA (Drums/Vocals).
Although deriving from a joke, the essence of the name, EGO FRIENDLY would come to resonate with a certain sense of relatability for all the members of the band. For KALAM and MARVIN, it would mark the culmination of 10 years playing music together, and finally meeting at middle ground in terms of how their differences in personal musical taste would finally assimilate. For THAREQ it would justify his adaptability in terms of gluing the rhythm together, after only joining the band for a few months. Collectively, the EP serves as a humble celebratory benchmark for MAD MADMEN; for it took less than a year for the band to work together and formulate original compositions and form an uncanny chemistry with one another.
The EP consists of 5 songs, 2 of which have already been published beforehand as singles (MAD MAD WOMAN, and COLD TURKEY).
EGO FRIENDLY also showcases a new compositional dynamic for KALAM and MARVIN in which a combination of their individual songwriting styles would be showcased throughout the EP. KALAM’s compositions (COLD TURKEY, SNAKES IN MY HEAD, and FUNKY CHILD) represents a more funk-rock narrative orientation, where as MARVIN’s compositions (MAD MAD WOMAN and DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER IF YOU KNOW THAT I KNOW. NATASHA DEAR?) are more melodic and pop by nature
